Chamber Music
Hashi Duo
A newly formed guitar and piano duo based in Rhode Island, conformed by the Japanese pianist Moé Takamatsu and the Costa Rican guitarist Adrián Montero.
Hashi (bridge in Japanese) as its name suggests seeks to create musical bridges, connecting and exploring the differences and similarities between Japanese and Latin American culture. In a world hyper-connected like today, but somehow ripped apart by technology and politics our goal it's to offer deep cultural experiences that celebrate diversity by keeping traditions alive but also reflect and connect with other cultures that enrich us and make us stronger.
Quinteto Centroamericano
The quintet, formed in 2022, came together through the initiative of Costa Rican guitarist Adrián Montero. With a passion for music and a desire to pay homage to the renowned nonagenarian composer Sofía Gubaidulina by showcasing a selection of her works written for and with the guitar.
One of the highlights of their tribute was the ambitious task of performing "Repentance," a composition written for a distinctive ensemble consisting of cello, double bass, and three guitars. This piece demonstrated Gubaidulina's innovative approach to composition and her ability to create captivating music that pushes the boundaries of traditional ensembles.
The Quinteto Centroamericano comprises highly talented musicians who have gained recognition and acclaim internationally. Among them are the Costa Rican guitarists Andrés Saborío, David Calderón, and Adrián Montero, each bringing their unique style and musicality to the ensemble. Alongside them is Guatemalan double bassist Luis Véliz, known for his exceptional technique and deep understanding of the instrument, and Salvadoran cellist Ileana Rivera, whose expressive playing adds richness and depth to the quintet's sound.
Apart from their tribute to Gubaidulina, the quintet is deeply committed to promoting contemporary music and expanding the repertoire for their ensemble. They actively collaborate with composers from the Central American region, like the Grammy award composer and conductor Eddie Mora, in order to bring fresh and innovative compositions to their audiences. Through their performances and programming choices, they strive to promote the diversity and artistic vibrancy of contemporary music, while also preserving the rich musical traditions of their region.
